We know the studios that will design the Central Transportation Port!

24 of October '22

The Central Transportation Port to be built in Baranowo will be designed by the British architectural consortium Foster + Partners in cooperation with Buro Happold. The designers will be supported by the Polish studio Kurylowicz&Associates.

In April this year, we reported that the rulers of the Central Communication Port were in talks with five major architectural studios, including Zaha Hadid Architects, Kohn Pedersen Fox, Luis Vidal y Asociad, Dar Al.-Handasah and Perkins and Will.

In the end, CPK's rulers decided to choose the design created by the Foster + Partners consortium in cooperation with Buro Happold. On the Polish side, the designers will be supported by Kurylowicz&Associates, the studio that designed the Warsaw-Modlin airport terminal.

Norman Foster's studio has experience in designing large airport complexes. Foster + Partners designed London's Stansted airport, Queen Alia Airport in Jordan (in cooperation with Buro Happold) and Beijing's main airport, among others. It also has about two and a half years to complete the concept as part of the project's master architect tasks. The company, which manages the construction of the Central Transportation Port, is to be paid 856 million zlotys for the project.

a never-ending story

The Central Communication Port, which is supposed to act as a buckle connecting all modes of transport in Poland, has been still in the zone of plans for a couple of years, which have been getting more expensive in the meantime (in the announcements of government plenipotentiaries in 2017, the air part was supposed to cost about 16-19 billion zlotys, today we can talk about twice that amount).

A CPK spokesman points out, the readiness of the first design concept in mid-2023, while it is expected to take about two and a half years to complete the tasks related to the design of the airport's passenger terminal, along with a transfer terminal connecting to the rail hub. However, the first results of the Foster + Partners studio's work are yet to be seen, as well as the CPK itself.
