Buglo playground in revitalized areas in Swietochlowice.

17 of April '24

An abandoned area bypassed by the residents of Swietochlowice has gained new life thanks to the revitalization of Kalina Pond. The inclusion in the project of attractions for different age groups, including a playground, has made it one of the favorite places to spend leisure time today.

The area around the Kalina Pond in Swietochlowice has been an embarrassing spot on the map for years. Pollution of the reservoir and surrounding soils, by neighboring chemical plants, caused the area to be shunned by residents for years. As part of the project "Improving the quality of the urban environment of the Municipality of Swietochlowice - remediation of degenerated and polluted areas in the area of the "Kalina" pond, together with the restoration of its biological activity", the remediation and revitalization of the Kalina Pond became possible, breathing a whole new life into its surroundings.

Cleaning the Kalina Pond itself was only one stage of the work. Ultimately, the Kalina area was to become an attractive recreational area, so the city authorities invested in a thorough revitalization of the entire space around it. Paths for pedestrians, rollerbladers and bicycles, benches and bridges were created, but also places to encourage active leisure - playing fields, an outdoor gym and a playground.

Janusz Wojdak, an architect from the PM Projekt design office, co-author of the detailed design, responsible, among other things, for the selection of playground equipment, talked about the process of changing the area around Kalina Pond.

The space by the Kalina Pond was a unique challenge, says Janusz Woj dak of the PM Projekt architectural studio. - For a long time the area was not associated by local residents with recreation. The new space was to take on a recreational character, so in addition to the walking and sports area, a playground was designed to attract families with children to the Kalina Pond area.

The development of the space took into account various types of equipment - both those requiring great agility several meters high towers, as well as equipment for younger children.

From the beginning, we knew that all spaces that will be created must be consistent with nature, among which the playground will be built, says Janusz Wojdak. - So we opted for materials and colors that blended well with the surroundings. We opted for a playground from a Polish manufacturer, Buglo, because in addition to the materials we were looking for, namely wood and steel, it provided us with a color scheme that allowed the space to blend in with the greenery by the Kalina Pond.

A variety of equipment stood on the playground, encouraging a variety of activities. In the center of the children's space stood an almost 8-meter tower from the Mega series, which undoubtedly distinguishes the place and gives the youngest the opportunity to take on challenges.

The Mega tower makes the playground visible from a distance," says Tomasz Ladra, Regional Sales Manager of Buglo. - Its choice was a hit, because as an unusual piece of equipment, it has become a distinctive element of the landscape, at which families with children often socialize.

The metamorphosis of Kalina Pond gave the place a second life. New plants and animals appeared there, as well as crowds of people eager to relax in nature. Once a forgotten place, today a space full of children's smiles that is a landmark of the area.
