#YoungPolisharchitects - PROLOGUE about starting out in the architecture profession.

16 of September '22

The text is from 07-8/22 A&B.

In our #Mlodzipolscyarchitekci series, we ask questions to young architects about the problems and conditions facing young people after graduation.

Licenses - why are young architects reluctant to obtain them?

We don't know. Maybe it is due to the desire to gain professional experience first? Maybe due to lack of time? Maybe chamber membership is not a goal for everyone? From the perspective of an office where one person is licensed, we actually don't have much need for each of us to be affiliated with the Chamber.

Conditions of practice for the young

Probably there are two perspectives to consider here, the first is young office workers, and the second is probably not so young studio managers anymore. In the first case, it is certainly not easy. Listening to younger colleagues, we are reminded of why we all decided to go and work abroad at the beginning of our careers. It is a pity that the Labor Law has not been adopted in Poland. In the second case, looking at the Polish architecture market from the perspective of a young office, it seems to us that there are many opportunities. We are interested in the architecture of county towns and non-urban areas. It seems to us that it is possible to build a practice based on projects carried out in these areas, so we focus on those under the Public Procurement Law. This allows us to gain experience with public entities. Data from the Supreme Audit Office in 2018 says that there are 2.19 bids per proceeding, this means that it may be worth looking for better practice conditions on the BIP sites of local municipalities.

Easier start in the profession, or what kind of profession?

Regulate the way the profession is practiced. Additionally, it would probably be easier for everyone if architects listened more often than they spoke.
