Bielsko-Biala City Hall and the Association of Polish Architects Bielsko-Biala Branch invite you to participate in a one-stage competition for the development of an urban-architectural concept for the Railway Station Transfer Center in Bielsko-Biala. The deadline for submitting entries is March 31, 2021.
The aim of the architectural-urban planning competition launched by the Bielsko SARP is to develop the best functional solutions for the future construction of a modern transportation and transfer center. The concepts submitted for the competition will be used to pass a local zoning plan, which will form the basis for new development around the Railway Station. The area covered by the competition is a prestigious plot of almost thirty hectares.
city-making approach
According to Maciej Zuber, president of SARP Bielsko-Biala branch:
We expect a lot of interest from offices from the region, and we also count on studios from all over the country. We care about a coherent and attractive concept for the development of the area around the station. The area is intended for a modern transfer center, so architects will have to reconcile various functions and forms of use in one place. In the future, it is to be not only a gateway to the city, but also a place that will be used on a daily basis by the residents of Bielsko and the entire Podbeskidzie region. We count on a city-creating approach, not devoid of sensitivity to elements in keeping with the spirit of Bielsko.
respect for historical neighborhood
Historical conditions will be very important for the project, architects should take into account. First and foremost, it is about the neighborhood of the historic train station building. Erected in 1890 to a design by Carl Schulz , the building underwent a general renovation between 1995 and 2001. Along with it, the interiors were modernized, for which it was awarded the Grand Prize in the National Contest "Modernization of the Year."
We do not want this architecturally valuable building to remain a pearl in the mud. That's why we are pinning high hopes on the competition, which will transform the areas around the station, so that the building itself will get a completely new setting," adds Maciej Zuber.

The competition is open to all architects or design-qualified offices.
- Submission of applications for admission to the competition: until January 18, 2021,
- admission to the competition: January 29, 2021,
- submission of competition works: until March 31, 2021,
- adjudication of the competition: April 30, 2021.
